Prof. Borislav Borisov, MD, DSc

Biography

Borislav Borissov graduated in medicine at the Medical University, Sofia. Until 1998 he worked as an anaesthesiologist at the University Hospital - Sofia and La Pitie Salpetrier, Paris. He also specialized in Addenbrooks, Cambridge. He obtained a specialty in anaesthesiology and intensive care in 1995 and in 1997 defended his PhD in the field of parenteral nutrition and nutritional status. He joined the establishment of the Medicines Executive Agency and worked there until 2004, when he began international consultancy work in medicines regulation and health technology assessment. Since 2010 he has been leading international medical centres for clinical trials.

He holds master's degrees in business administration and healthcare management. In 2018 he obtained the educational and scientific degree "Doctor of Science", in January 2020 he becomes an associate professor at the Department of Health Technology Assessment at the Faculty of the Public Health, Medical University - Sofia. Since January 2025 he was elected Professor. 

Publications and scientific interests

Author of 2 monographs, co-author of 3 textbooks and 2 studies. Author and co-author in more than 50 publications, most of them in international indexed and refereed journals. He has been cited more than 300 times in Scopus and Web of Science.

Since 2020, he has been a peer reviewer for the journal PLOS ONE and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Market Access & Health Policy.

Membership in organizations

From 2016 to 2019 he was elected as a Member of the Board of the Bulgarian Association for Clinical Research, BACR. From 2019 to 2022 he is the Chairman of the Board of BACR.
