At a special festive session of the Sofia Municipal Council on Sofia Day, in the presence of Mayor Yordanka Fandakova, the chairman of the council, Elen Gerdzhikov, awarded the titles "Honorary Citizen of Sofia" and the Badge of Honor of the Sofia Municipality. Prominent figures of culture, science and education with a contribution to the capital were awarded with high honors.

The dean of the Faculty of Public Health, MU-Sofia, Prof. Dr. Tsekomir Vodenicharov, MD, was awarded the "Honourous Sign of the Metropolitan Municipality". The reasons for this nomination are the significant contribution of Prof. Vodenicharov as the creator of the first Faculty of Public Health in the country within the framework of MU-Sofia. Executive directors, governors and managers of a number of metropolitan municipal medical institutions in hospital and outpatient care have completed their training, increased their qualifications and acquired a professional qualification in the specialty "Public Health and Health Management" at the Health Care Institute. On the initiative of Prof. Vodenicharov, the city of Sofia will be the European Capital of Public Health 2020. With its expert capacity for public health, MU-Sofia supports the activities of the Sofia Municipality by preparing opinions, developing joint projects and training. With the active support and assistance of Prof. Vodenicharov, the Program of the Metropolitan Municipality for financial support of medical specialists in health care from the specialty "Nurse" studying at the Health and Medical Sciences Institute, MU-Sofia, is implemented.
