Mission
- To contribute responsibly and creatively to the construction of a methodological base for educational and scientific research activities in the field of public health, health policy and management.
- To build capacity of public health and health management specialists with a high degree of professionalism to ensure better access to appropriate, sustainable and high quality health care.
- To create a new generation of health politicians and managers, prepared for the challenges of the dynamically forming market of health services, carriers of an entrepreneurial spirit and respecting the universal ethical principles of health care practice.
- To provide continuous training and methodical support to health politicians and managers in the modernization of Bulgarian health care.
- To change the traditional medico-biological image of medical knowledge and to bring the methods of social knowledge beyond the boundaries of clinical medicine.
History
The first steps:
The new Faculty of Public Health was founded in 2001 with the support of the Stability Pact. The faculty is part of the structure of the Medical University - Sofia, the oldest and most authoritative academic organization in the field of medicine and healthcare in Bulgaria.
Prerequisites:
The faculty was created by merging the former Department of Social Medicine and Health Management and the Faculty of Health Care
Target
Integration and creation of a unified methodological base for educational and scientific activities in the field of public health Creation of a new generation of health managers with skills adequate to European standards and with a new, pluralistic management style. Providing intellectual and methodical support to health politicians and leaders of organizational change in the Bulgarian health care system.

The faculty team includes highly qualified academic lecturers and experts at the national level with experience in the field of health policy and health management. They are the authors of a number of significant studies, books and study guides. Some of them are consultants in the Parliament and the Ministry of Health. From the month of November 2001, on the initiative of the FOZ, the publication of the magazine "Health Management" began.
