World Bioethics Day 2024: “No Discrimination and Stigma”

The Faculty of Public Health "Prof. Dr. Tsekomir Vodenicharov, MD" at the Medical University - Sofia successfully held the celebration of the World Bioethics Day 2024. The event, organized under the motto "Without Discrimination and Stigma", took place on October 18, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the Aula of the University Hospital "Tsaritsa Ioanna - ISUL".

The organizers of the event were the Bulgarian Section of the International Bioethics Network in cooperation with the World Medical Association, located at the Faculty of Public Health, as well as the Faculty of Public Health itself "Prof. Dr. Tsekomir Vodenicharov, MD".

Event program

The event included three thematic sessions that examined various aspects related to discrimination and stigma and their relationship to bioethics.

First session

Report on the topic: "No discrimination and stigma"

Second session

Stigma and discrimination in patients with HIV/AIDS – historical experience and the example of Cuba
Bioethics and occupational health in the modern world of work
Artificial intelligence without discrimination and stigma in healthcare
Ethical aspects of public attitudes regarding overcoming stereotypes, stigmatization and discrimination against people with disabilities
No discrimination and stigma in rehabilitation

Third session

Student participation in submitting materials in several different categories (essay, artistic poster, photo and video) with awards.

Competition and prizes

During the celebration, the winners in the various categories of the specially organized competition were announced. The distinguished participants were determined by a committee composed of lecturers and members of the Bulgarian Section of Bioethics at the Faculty of Public Health. The winners received cash prizes and certificates for their achievements.

All participants in the competition were awarded certificates for active participation, and the official presentation of the awards and certificates took place during the event on October 18, 2024. The event attracted wide interest and participation, demonstrating the importance of the topic of overcoming discrimination and stigma in healthcare and society. The Faculty of Public Health "Prof. Dr. Tsekomir Vodenicharov, DMN" expresses its gratitude to all participants and organizers for their contribution to the success of this significant event.
