MU-Sofia continues its efforts to introduce a common "European Diploma" for the second year in a row

Obshta evropeiska diploma, foz, glavno izobrazhenie

For the second year now, Medical University-Sofia is working with its partner universities from Europe on the topic of creating a common diploma based on common study modules and programs in the various higher schools. Many of the professors at the Faculty of Public Health are actively involved in this project to develop and issue a common European diploma.

The newly elected management of the oldest medical university in Bulgaria categorically supports and will continue the work on this key initiative for the future of European educational networks.

Within the University Alliance INGENIUM, created by 10 higher schools in January 2023, MU-Sofia is responsible for the work package "Building a cohesive cooperation framework". It includes the development of a common education quality system - how to accredit new study modules, programs and degrees common to partner universities, including the issuance of a common European diploma (within the project called INGENIUM Open Degree).

From the very beginning of the initiative, MU-Sofia also includes accreditation-related national institutions in the working meetings of the alliance, in order to facilitate the development of an ecosystem favoring the partnership of universities in the direction of common degrees and programs.

On May 30, 2024, INGENIUM's Management Committee, including the management of MU-Sofia, officially supported the EC's proposal "Plan for a European Diploma" from March 2024. This strategic document outlines the way to issue a common European diploma and facilitate transnational cooperation .

The universities included in the INGENIUM initiative are:

  • Germany: Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences
  • Bulgaria: Medical University-Sofia
  • Spain: University of Oviedo
  • Finland: University of Applied Sciences of Southeast Finland
  • France: University of Rouen Normandy
  • Greece: University of Crete
  • Ireland: Münster University of Technology
  • Italy: University Gabriele d'Annunzio Chietti – Pescara
  • Romania: Technical University Gheorghe Assaci in Iași
  • Sweden: University of Šovde
