Festive events

The festive events began with the laying of wreaths and flowers at the Doctor's Monument by the university management, deans and vice-deans. A minute of silence was observed in memory of the physicians who gave their lives in service to society.

The main part of the celebrations took place in the building of the Sofia Opera and Ballet, where an award ceremony for prominent scientists and teachers took place, followed by a concert. The event was attended by the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mrs. Iliyana Yotova, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Science, Prof. Andrey Chorbanov, the Governor of the National Health Insurance Fund, Assoc. Prof. Petko Stefanovski, representatives of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, rectors and deans of partner universities, as well as directors of university hospitals.

Congratulations and recognition

The Chairman of the General Assembly of MU-Sofia, Prof. Raina Gergova, opened the ceremony with a welcome to the guests, after which the Rector, Prof. Dr. Boycho Landzhov, delivered a speech. He emphasized the importance of the healthcare profession, wishing his colleagues to continue to exercise their humane mission with enthusiasm. Prof. Landzhov also noted the successes of the university in 2024, including increased salaries, modernization of the base, increased publication activity and international projects.

Vice President Iliana Yotova also congratulated the academic community, highlighting the high European and global authority of the university. Prof. Andrey Chorbanov added that the prestige of MU-Sofia is proven both by the thousands of Bulgarian doctors around the world and by the numerous international students.

Award-winning teachers

During the ceremony, awards were presented for contributions in various fields:

Honorary badge "AESCULAPIUS": Prof. Dr. Ognyan Brankov (Department of Surgery) and Prof. Genka Petrova-Tashkova (Department of Organization and Economics of Pharmacy).

Award sign "PANACEA": distinguished lecturers in the medical-clinical, medical-biological and medical-social fields.

Sign of honor "SIGNUM LAUDIS": Several prominent lecturers were honored for special services to the university, including Prof. Dr. Ralitsa Zlatanova-Velikova (Department of Health Management) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Veselka Duleva (Department of Occupational Medicine).

The event ended with numerous congratulatory addresses from state institutions and partner organizations, which emphasized the importance of Medical University - Sofia as a national leader in medical education and research.
