Prof. Dr. Vili Slavchev Zahariev, MD

Biography:

He was born in 1963 in the city of Sofia. He graduated from high school in 1981 with full honors and a gold medal. In 1989, he graduated in medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the Medical Academy - Sofia, also with excellent results. He began his professional career as a resident in the internal medicine and emergency department. Since 1990, he has been an assistant in the Department of "Disaster Medicine" at the Ministry of Health of the MA - Sofia.

He successively passed through all stages of academic development: senior assistant, chief assistant, associate professor and now professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine. He has been a specialist in disaster medicine since 1997. He acquired additional professional skills through his participation in various specializations in Bulgaria and abroad in the areas of Disaster Medicine and Radiobiology.

Participates in teaching activities of students in the disciplines - "medicine", "dental medicine", "nurse", "midwife", "physician assistant", "kinesitherapy", "health care management" and "public health and health management" , as well as in the training of specialists in basic courses of postgraduate studies. He is the scientific supervisor of doctors-specialists and doctoral students in the scientific specialty "Medicine of disaster situations".

He is a participant in research teams in the successful development of scientific projects co-financed by the European Social Fund of the European Union.

Publications and scientific interests:

He is the author of over 100 publications in the field of disaster medicine and radiobiology, including monographs, textbooks, didactic tests, curricula and methodological guides for conducting exercises with students and specialists, as well as participation in numerous scientific forums.

Prof. Dr. Zahariev's scientific interests are mainly in the field of radiation protection, radiation-induced injuries in humans and primary outpatient medical care.

Membership in organizations:

• He is a member of the Expert Council for the medical specialty "Medicine of disaster situations" at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Bulgaria;
• Member of the Council for the quality of training and qualification in the emergency medical care system at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Bulgaria;
• Expert of the National Agency for Assessment and Accreditation at the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria;
• He is a member of the Scientific Society of Disaster Medicine;
• Member of the Scientific Society of Medical Geography - Disaster Medicine Section;
• Chairman of the examination committee for the state examination for the specialty "Disaster Medicine".
