Assoc. Prof. Maria Ivanova Dimitrova, PhD

Biography:

Born in 1961 in Sofia. In 1983, she graduated in the specialty "nurse - public profile" at the Medical College - Sofia. Later, she acquired a bachelor's degree in the specialty "Health Care" at the FPH - Sofia; in 2002, at the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" she acquired a master's degree in the specialty - "Adult Education". In 2010, she graduated with a second master's degree in the specialty "Public Health and Health Management" at the Faculty of Public Health - Sofia. She has two specialties - "Medical Pedagogy" and "Public Health". She holds an educational and scientific degree "doctor" since 2014, and since 2015 - associate professor at the Faculty of Public Health, Medical University - Sofia.

Participation in projects: UNICEF project "Baby-Friendly Hospitals"; participation in a working group for the creation of a specialization and curriculum for the specialty "Breastfeeding Consultant, Healthy and Dietary Nutrition"; trained as a trainer under the Bulgarian-Swiss Hospital Hygiene Program; Bulgarian-Dutch project under the MATRA program - "Palliative Care". Participates in five research projects funded by Medical Science Council by Medical University - Sofia under the GRANT program.

She is the scientific supervisor of 5 doctoral students, four of them successfully defended their dissertations, and 35 master's degree students.

Assoc. Prof. Maria Dimitrova teaches students with a Bachelor's degree in the specialty "Nurse". She leads classes in the disciplines: Philosophy and Introduction to Nursing Care; Nursing Care for Patients with Surgical Diseases; Nursing Care for Patients with Oncological Diseases; Palliative Nursing Care.

Publications and scientific interests:

The areas of scientific research are in the areas of: theoretical and practical foundations of nursing care; care needs and prevention of complications in special nursing care; innovative approaches in university training of nurses; management and organizational problems in the activities of teams in the implementation of health care.

Membership in organizations:

Assoc. Prof. Maria Dimitrova is a member of the Bulgarian Association of Health Care Professionals; Scientific Society of Medical Education; Bulgarian National Society of Public Health. Author and co-author of over 80 publications and one monographу. Member of the General Assembly of the Medical University - Sofia.
