Prof. Iva Vanyova Miteva, PhD

Biography:

Professor Iva Miteva, MD, was born in Sofia. She completed her secondary education at the 81st High School „Victor Hugo” in Sofia, with a focus on English. She studied Molecular Biology at the Université Montpellier 2, Science et Techniques du Languedoc, France. Higher education: she studied Environmental Conservation at the Faculty of Biology at Sofia University „St. Kliment Ohridski”, earning a Master’s degree in Ecology.

She worked sequentially in her field of expertise as an expert in the National Service for Nature Protection, the Directorate for Cohesion Policy for the Environment at the Ministry of Environment and Water, and the Municipality of Sofia.

After a successful competition, she was appointed as an assistant in the Department of Occupational Medicine at the Faculty of Public Health at the Medical University-Sofia. In 2014, she obtained an educational and scientific degree „Doctor” after defending her dissertation on the topic: „Sports Occupational Medicine – Status and Perspectives”. She also obtained a second master's degree in „Public Health and Health Management” from MU-Sofia and acquired a specialty in Toxicology. 

She participated in numerous projects, international seminars, and congresses. 

In 2018, he obtained a diploma for the academic position of "Associate Professor" after a successful competition.

She developed a new section within Occupational Medicine – „Sports Occupational Medicine”, focused on promoting professional health and preventive approaches to occupational diseases and workplace accidents.

Publications and scientific interests:

The citations and publications so far are over 200. 

Prof. Miteva is a co-author of 3 textbooks in the field of occupational health, safety, and work capacity, as well as a teaching aid on „Hygiene and Ecology”.

Her contributions to the educational activity include the textbook on „Hygiene and Ecology”, the Compendium on „Hygiene and Ecology”, and the monograph „Occupational Medicine and Workforce Health - Status and Perspectives”, the latter of which she authored solely.

Membership in organizations:

Prof. Miteva is a Member of the Bulgarian Academic Society of Occupational Medicine, the Bulgarian Scientific Society of Toxicology under the Union of Scientific Societies in Bulgaria, the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH), she holds collective membership in the European Association of Health Management (EHMA), the European Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPHER), and the European Public Health Association (EUPHA), as well as the International Forum of Teachers (IFT) UNESCO Chair of Bioethics.
