Assoc. Prof. Yoana Simeonova, PhD

Biography:

Yoana Simeonova has held consequently the academic positions assistant professor (2019-2021) and „chief assistant (2021-2024) at the Department of Social Medicine of the Faculty of Public Health. She has been an associate professor since 2024. Her professional career has started since 2008 in the Medical University of Pleven as an assistant professor and chief assistant. She is a Head of the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine and Disaster Medicine. 

She has a master's degree in Healthcare Management. She is a specialist in Medical Informatics and Health Management (2012) and Health Economics (2016). She holds a PhD in Social medicine and Organization of Healthcare and Pharmacy. She has participated in more than 50 courses and seminars. 

Yoana Simeonova teaches students from 4 specialties of the Master and Bachelor programs in the Faculty of Public Health “Prof. Tzecomir Vodenitcharov, MD, DSc”, and medical students. 

She participated in more than 80 scientific conferences and congresses, in 2 research projects and 7 international and national educational projects. She has received a number of awards for high academic and research contributions including: first prize from the attestation of the academic staff and prize for the most outstanding lecturer in the Medical University of Pleven in 2016. She has been a scientific consultant for 10 PhD students and has provided methodological assistance for a number of students.

Assoc. Prof. Simeonova is an auditor certified since 2008 and actively participates in internal audits, processes of preparation and evaluation of different accreditation procedures. She has been an assistant editor of the JBCR of Medical University – Pleven.

Publications and scientific interests:

Assoc. Prof. Simeonova is an author and co-author of 80 publications, 2 monographs and textbooks of Social medicine, Medical sociology, Epidemiology and Health promotion. Her scientific papers were cited more than 60 times. She participated in more than 90 scientific conferences and congresses. 

Her research interests are in the areas of epidemiology of chronic non-communicable diseases, health promotion, self-rated health, health-related quality of life, and acculturation.
