Prof. Vili Zahariev, MD, PhD

Biography:

Prof. Dr. Zahariev was born in Sofia. Finished high school in 1981 with complete excellent grades and a gold medal for meritorious performance. He graduated in medicine in 1989 at the Faculty of Medicine of the Medical Academy - Sofia, with excellent results. He began his professional career as a resident in an internal medicine and emergency department.

Since 1990, he has been an assistant professor at the Department of Disaster Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the Medical Academy - Sofia. He successively passed through all stages of academic development: assistant, senior assistant, chief assistant, associate professor and now full professor in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine and Disaster Medicine at Medical University - Sofia. He acquired additional professional skills through his participation in various specializations in Bulgaria and abroad in the areas of disaster medicine and radiobiology.

He participates in teaching activities for students in the disciplines - "medicine", "dental medicine", "nurse", "midwife", "physician assistant", "kinesitherapy", "nursing care management" and "public health and health management", as well as in the training of specialists in basic courses of postgraduate studies.

Mentor of physicians and doctoral students specializing in Disaster Medicine. Researcher in scientific projects co-financed by the European Social Fund of the EU.

Publications and scientific interests:

Prof. Dr. Zahariev's scientific interests lie mainly in the fields of radiation-induced damage in humans, radiation carcinogenesis and radiation protection.

He is the author of over 100 publications in the fields of disaster medicine and radiobiology at home and abroad, including monographs, textbooks, didactic tests, curricula and methodological guides for conducting exercises with students and specializing physicians, as well as participation in numerous scientific forums. Prof. Zahariev's scientific works have over 200 citations.

Membership in organizations:

Prof. Zahariev is a member of the Expert Council for the medical specialty Disaster Medicine at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Bulgaria; He is a member of the Council for the quality of training and qualification in the emergency medical care system at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Bulgaria; Expert of the National Agency for Assessment and Accreditation at the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria; He is a member of the Scientific Council of the National Center for Radiobiology and Radiation Protection; He is a member of the Scientific Society of Disaster Medicine.
