Chief Asst. Stoyan Vizev, MD, PhD

Biography

Dr. Stoyan Vizev graduated as a Master of Medicine (MD) from the Medical University of Sofia in 2019. Since 2020, following a successful competition, he has held the academic position of "Assistant Professor" in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the Faculty of Public Health, "Prof. Tzecomir Vodenitcharov, MD, DSc," at Sofia Medical University.

In 2024, he obtained the academic degree of "Doctor" following the defense of his doctoral dissertation titled "Management of Medical Forces and Resources in Extreme Situations." Starting from 2025, after another competitive selection, he took the academic position of " Chief Assistant" in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine and Emergency Medicine at the Faculty of Public Health, "Prof. Tzecomir Vodenitcharov, MD, DSc," at Sofia Medical University.

In 2024, he also acquired a specialization in Disaster Medicine.

He has completed professional qualification courses in radiation protection, disaster response, and management of the consequences of radiological incidents, among others. 

Dr. Vizev is fluent in both written and spoken English. 

Publications and scientific interests

He has been involved as a researcher in scientific projects for three consecutive years in the "National Program for Funding Young Scientists and Postdoctoral Researchers," in the "Young Scientist" module, as well as in a scientific project funded by the Scientific Research Fund of Sofia Medical University.

Dr. Vizev actively participates in teaching activities and examination committees for students, including English-speaking students, in programs related to medicine, dental medicine, medical assistants, nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, public health, and emergency medicine at both the bachelor's and master's levels. He also teaches courses on disaster management, population protection, and emergency situations management.

He is actively involved in teaching mobility programs through the Erasmus+ program.

His primary research interests lie in the areas of Public Health, Preventive Medicine, Medical Support in Disasters and Emergencies, and Risk Management in Extreme Situations.

Dr. Stoyan Vizev is an author and co-author of over 30 national and international scientific publications and has participated in numerous national and global academic forums on disaster population protection, preventive medicine, public health, and health management, with multiple citations in journals with Impact Factor (IF).

Membership in organizations

He is a member of the General Assembly of Sofia Medical University, the Bulgarian Medical Association (BLS), the Bulgarian Scientific Society of Public Health, the National Association for Health Policy and Management, the National Association of Gerontology, and holds collective membership in ASPHER. He is also a member of the International Forum of Teachers of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics.
