Assoc. Prof. Nikolai Hristov, MD, PhD

Biography:

Completed primary education at 22nd Secondary School in Sofia, secondary education at the First English Language School in Sofia and medicine at the Medical University-Sofia. Completed regular military service in the Border Troops. Held positions as a state sanitary inspector at the Sofia Regional Health Inspectorate and an expert at the National Center for Public Health and Analyses, the Bulgarian Red Cross and the National Center for Communicable and Parasitic Diseases. Has two acquired medical specialties - Social Medicine and Health Care Organization and Disaster Medicine. 

Specialized in Epidemiology at Michigan State University and Health Systems at the Tokyo University. Has dissertation on the topic of "Quality of Primary Health Care". Has participated 8 times as an expert in national and international projects such as "Limiting and Preventing the Informal Economy", "Primary Health Care Monitor in Europe", "Barriers to Access to Dental Care in Bulgaria", etc. Guest lecturer at the Medical College and Sofia University. Held academic positions as assistant professor, senior assistant professor, chief assistant professor and associate professor at the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine and Disaster Medicine at the Faculty of Public Health at MU-Sofia. 

Currently teaches medical ethics, medical sociology, social medicine and disaster medicine to students from the specialties medicine, dental medicine, nursing, public health and health management, nursing care management, clinical trial management, rehabilitator, clinical laboratory assistant. Fluent in Russian and English. 

Publications and scientific interests:

Has a total of 90 publications in Bulgarian and international publications and 40 citations. Reviewer for the journals Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness and PLOS ONE. Scientific interests: epidemiology, social medicine, medical sociology, medical ethics, disaster medicine, health economics, health policy.

Membership in organizations:

Member of the Bulgarian Scientific Society for Public Health, the European Public Health Association and the International Network for Health Workforce Education. Contributor to the World Justice Project Rule of Law.
