Prof. Lidia Georgieva, MPhil, PhD, DSc

Biography:

Prof. Lidia Georgieva is a physician and professor of "Social Medicine, Organization, and Management of Healthcare and Pharmacy." She obtained her Master of Philosophy degree in epidemiology from the University of Cambridge, UK. She defended her PhD degree in public health at the Open University in Cambridge, UK, with a doctoral thesis titled "Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Diseases." She has specialized in Austria, the UK, Germany, the USA, Russia, and other countries. 

Prof. Georgieva has over 35 years of experience as a university lecturer and scientific researcher in the fields of public health, health policy, epidemiology, and risk management in healthcare. She has been the head of the Department of Preventive Medicine at the Faculty of Public Health, Medical University, Sofia. She has taught courses as an invited lecturer at the New Bulgarian University, the University of National and World Economy, and the American University. She has been the leader and participant in a team of more than 25 projects of international and national significance.

As Director of the Directorate of "International Relations and European Projects and Programs" at the Ministry of Health, advisor to the Minister of Health and the Chairman of the Governing Council of WHO, Prof. Georgieva managed international activities and participated in drafting health policy documents.

Prof. Georgieva has been an invited expert and consultant to WHO, the European Commission, the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, DG SANCO, the European Observatory on Health Policies, the Parliamentary Committee on Health, NHIF, as well as significant companies from the private sector such as BUPA, BTC, METRO, Sopharma, etc. Valuable experience and knowledge were gained in her work as Head of "Health Risk Management" at MARSH, Bulgaria, and as a consultant to Mercer and Oliver Wyman at the EMEA level (Europe, Middle East, and Asia).

Publications and scientific interests:

Prof. Georgieva has over 500 citations and over 160 publications in international and national scientific journals and textbooks. She is a member of the editorial board of 3 Bulgarian and 3 international scientific journals. She has reviewed two World Congresses on Public Health. She has 5 methodologies and methods implemented in practice, which are applied in the Ministry of Health, MARSH, and pharmacies of SoPharma in Bulgaria.

Prof. Georgieva has been a member of the Executive Board of ASPHER, Chairman of the Executive Board of OSI-ASPHER for Europe, and a member of 8 other international and Bulgarian professional and scientific organizations.
