Prof. Dr. GeorgeChristoff Christoff, MD, MPH

Biography

He graduated from the Higher Medical Institute – Sofia. He works at the Allergy Clinic of Aleksandrovska University Hospital. He has held positions as junior, senior, and chief assistant at the Higher Medical Institute in Sofia. He obtained medical specialties in Internal Medicine and Clinical Allergology. 

He earned a Master’s degree in Public Health and Health Management (MPH) at the Faculty of Public Health, Medical University – Sofia. After successfully defending his dissertation titled “Socioeconomic Analysis and Evaluation of Bronchial Asthma,” he obtained the academic degree of “Doctor” (PhD) at the Medical University – Sofia. He was awarded the academic title of “Associate Professor” and began working at the Department of Health Economics at the Faculty of Public Health, Medical University – Sofia. In 2015, he was promoted to the academic position of “Professor.” He also obtained a specialty in Health Economics. 

Prof. Christoff was the founder and head (until 2017) of the Department of Health Technology Assessment at the Faculty of Public Health, Medical University – Sofia. He developed and established the department with the first systematic courses in Bulgaria on “Evidence-Based Medicine” and “Health Technology Assessment.” Since the end of 2017, he has been a member of the Department of Preventive Medicine.

Prof. Christoff is the founder and chairperson of the Managing Board of the Bulgarian Alliance for Clinical and Applied Allergology. Through this scientific organization, he established and maintains collaboration with the International Severe Asthma Registry, which led to the creation of Bulgaria’s first and only internationally recognized registry for severe asthma – the Bulgarian Severe Asthma Registry. He is also the editor-in-chief of the specialized medical journal Medical Magazine.

Publications and scientific interests:

Prof. GeorgeChristoff’s scientific interests lie in the fields of public health and health management, epidemiology, and pharmacoeconomics of chronic socially significant diseases, pricing, reimbursement, pharmaceutical market regulation, hospital economics, valuation of hospital services and determination of hospital costs, economic analyses of hospital activities, and health technology assessment. He also specializes in the areas of bronchial asthma and allergic inflammation, epidemiology of allergic diseases and bronchial asthma, and the pharmacoeconomics of bronchial asthma.

Prof. Christoff has over 300 publications and participations in national and international scientific forums, 112 of which are indexed in Web of Science, cited 3,508 times in 2,827 publications from the Web of Science Core Collection, with an h-index of 26.
