In line with European trends, the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine and MBS prepares doctors and specialists whose qualifications meet the needs of the 21st century. With nearly 70 years of history, the Department trains students in Bachelor's and Master's programs in Medicine, the specialties of the Faculty of Public Health and Medical Rehabilitation and Occupational Therapy.
We strive to educate health managers with an entrepreneurial spirit, capable of addressing the challenges of modern healthcare. We provide methodological support to health policymakers and disseminate knowledge in the field of health policy and management, based on scientific evidence. We work to transform the traditional medical-biological approach through a multidisciplinary model, uniting social knowledge with clinical medicine.
The aim of the training in the department is to develop skills in analyzing the health status, health priorities and needs of the population, as well as the social factors of health at the individual and population level, through the mastery of modern methodology. We strive to familiarize the largest possible number of students, doctoral students, postgraduates and other medical and non-medical specialists with the basics of the epidemiology of chronic non-communicable diseases and preventive medicine. We create conditions for a deep understanding of the relationship between epidemiology, clinical medicine and health policy, based on scientific evidence, and determine the role of the socio-medical approach in the activities of the doctor in the context of the comprehensive health reform.
To achieve its goals, the department uses modern and internationally established teaching techniques and methods with a greater practical focus. We apply solving situational tasks, problem-based learning, independent work with databases, work in small groups, development of epidemiological projects and social histories of patients. We introduce tests to verify knowledge throughout the entire learning process in regular and distance form.
We train health professionals in preparing scientific research designs, formulating and proving scientific hypotheses, identifying priority health problems and ways to solve them through methods of health promotion and disease prevention. We apply the "Lifecourse/Lifespan approach" - providing care throughout the individual's life. We organize courses for SDO and PMO, conduct research, publish teaching aids and participate in the development of National Preventive Programs and international projects in the field of preventive medicine.
