Prof. Asena Serbezova, df, dmn

Biography:

Prof. Asena Serbezova, Ph.D., MD graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy, MU-Sofia and defended her dissertation in the field of social medicine and organization of healthcare and pharmacy. Doctor of Medical Sciences in the field of social medicine and organization of healthcare and pharmacy. Master of Health Management and Public Health (Faculty of Public Health, MU-Sofia), Master of Health Policy and Pharmacoeconomics (Barcelona School of Management, Univeristat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain) and Master of Psychology (VTU). She has three recognized specialties: organization and economics of pharmacy and distribution practice, organization and economics of pharmaceutical production and clinical pharmacy. Chairwoman of the Quality Commission of the Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Union (2007-2010) and Deputy Chairwoman of the same for the period 2010-2013. Member of the National Council for Prices and Reimbursement of Medicinal Products (2013-2014). During the period 07.2014-08.2018 he was the Executive Director of the Executive Agency for Medicines under the Minister of Health. Member of the Management Board of the European Medicines Agency from 07.2014 to 08.2018. Member of the Scientific Committee for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) under the European Medicines Agency. From 02.2020 to 13.12.2020 he was the Chairman of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Union. Minister of Health in the 99th Government of Bulgaria. 

Lead researcher of research projects from GRANT-2014 and GRANT-2012 at the Medical University - Sofia, funded by the Council of Medical Science and participant in research teams in the development and implementation of seven projects from GRANT-2016, GRANT-2015, GRANT-2014, GRANT-2012 and GRANT-2011. Participant in a research team of two projects funded by the Scientific Research Fund of the Ministry of Education and Science.

Winner of the Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Union Award "Master Pharmacist of the Year" - in 2011 and the BFU Award for Contribution to the Development of Pharmacy in Bulgaria - 2008.

Publications and scientific interests: 

Author and co-author of more than 160 publications in the field of drug policy, quality management in healthcare, drug use, health technology assessment, etc. Member of the editorial boards of the journal Health Policy and Management, the journal Hospital Pharmacy and the journal Biotechnology & Biotechnological equipment of Taylor&Francis. He has more than 700 citations in Bulgaria and abroad.

Member of the Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Union, the Bulgarian Scientific Society of Pharmacy.
