Prof. Dr. Vili Slavchev Zahariev, MD

Biography:

Prof. Dr. Zahariev was born in Sofia. He completed his secondary education in 1981 with
full honors and a gold medal. In 1989, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the
Medical Academy – Sofia, also with excellent results. He began his professional career as
resident in internal medicine and emergency care.

Since 1990, he has been an assistant professor at the Department of Emergency Medicine at the
Faculty of Medicine of the Medical Academy – Sofia. He successively passes through
all stages of academic development: assistant, senior assistant, chief assistant, associate professor
and now a professor in the Department of Social, Preventive and Disaster Medicine
situations” at the Medical University – Sofia. He acquires additional professional
skills through participation in various specializations in Bulgaria and abroad on issues of
Disaster medicine and radiobiology.

Participates in the teaching activities of students in the disciplines of "medicine",
"dentistry", "nurse", "midwife", "physician assistant",
"kinesitherapy", "healthcare management" and "public health and health
management", as well as in the training of specialists in basic postgraduate courses
training.

He is a scientific supervisor of medical specialists and doctoral students in the scientific field.
specialty "Disaster Medicine". He is a participant in the research teams
in the successful development of scientific projects co-financed by the European Social Fund
European Union fund.

Publications and scientific interests:

The scientific interests of Prof. Dr. Zahariev are mainly in the field of radiation
induced damage in humans, radiation carcinogenesis and radiation protection.
He is the author of over 100 publications in the field of Disaster Medicine and
radiobiology in our country and abroad, including monographs, textbooks, didactic tests,
curricula and methodological guides for conducting exercises with students and
postgraduates, as well as participation in numerous scientific forums. The scientific works of Prof.
Zahariev have over 200 citations.

Membership in organizations:

Prof. Zahariev is a member of the Expert Council for the medical specialty "Medicine"
of Disaster Situations” at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Bulgaria; Member of
Council for the Quality of Training and Qualification in the Emergency Medical System
assistance to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Bulgaria; Expert of the National
Agency for Assessment and Accreditation under the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria; Member of
The Scientific Council of the National Center for Radiobiology and Radiation Protection; Member of
The Scientific Society of Disaster Medicine.
