Prof. Dr. Veselka Duleva, MD

Biography:

Prof. Dr. Veselka Duleva, MD, graduated in medicine from the Sofia University, has acquired a medical specialty in nutrition and dietetics. She defended her dissertation on the topic "Vitamin status of patients with hypertensive disease, development of diet and vitamin therapy" at the Institute of Nutrition, AMS, Moscow. She completed a two-year certificate program "International Food Law" at the Institute of Food Law and Regulation, Michigan State University, USA. Dr. Duleva worked as a therapist in the District Hospital, Lovech, Workers' Hospital, Kostenets, and the 28th Polyclinic, Sofia.  

Since 1990, Dr. Duleva has worked at the National Center for Hygiene, Medical Ecology and Nutrition, transformed into the National Center for Public Health and Analysis, and since 2011 he has been the head of the "Food and Nutrition" department. Since 2009 she is an associate professor of Hygiene, and since 2014 Professor of Nutrition and Dietetics. From 2021 Dr. Duleva is part of the team of the "Occupational Medicine" Department of FOZ-MU-Sofia as an associate professor of Hygiene.

Prof. Duleva, MD is the Chief Coordinator of the Expert Council on the Medical Specialty Nutrition and Dietetics at the Ministry of Health, Deputy Chairman of the Scientific Expert Council on Nutrition at the Ministry of Health, Chairman of the State Examination Committee on Nutrition and Dietetics. 

Prof. Duleva actively participates in the development of the national food policy and regulatory framework related to food and nutrition. Dr. Duleva has extensive research experience, leads a number of national projects, is a coordinator of international projects, such as the WHO European Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative (COSI), EC Joint Actions – JANPA, BestReMap, JA-PreventNCD. 

Publications and scientific interests:

Prof. Duleva has many years of teaching experience, she supervises medical specialists as well as doctoral students. Prof. Duleva has over 200 scientific publications, H-Index – 25.

He is a member of the editorial boards of the journal Food Science and Applied Biotechnology (FSAB); magazine Bulgarian Journal of Public Health and Vol. Food industry.
