Associate Professor Nikolay Hristov, Ph.D

Biography:

He completed primary education at 22nd Secondary School in Sofia, secondary education at the First English High School in Sofia and medicine at the Medical University of Sofia. He completed regular military service in the Border Troops. He held positions as a state sanitary inspector at the Sofia Regional Health Inspectorate and an expert at the National Center for Public Health and Analysis, the Bulgarian Red Cross and the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases. He has two acquired medical specialties – Social Medicine and Healthcare Organization and Emergency Medicine. 

He specialized in epidemiology at Michigan State University and health systems at the University of Tokyo. He has a defended dissertation on the topic "Quality of primary health care". He has 8 participations as an expert in national and international projects such as "Limiting and prevention of the informal economy", "Monitor of primary health care in Europe", "Barriers to access to dental care in Bulgaria", etc. Guest lecturer at the Medical College and Sofia University. He held academic positions as assistant, senior assistant, chief assistant and associate professor at the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine and Disaster Medicine of the Faculty of Public Health at MU-Sofia. 

He teaches medical ethics, medical sociology, social medicine and disaster medicine to students in the fields of medicine, dentistry, nursing, public health and health management, healthcare management, clinical trial management, rehabilitation, clinical laboratory assistant. He is fluent in Russian and English. 

Publications and scientific interests:

He has a total of 90 publications in Bulgarian and international journals and 40 citations. Reviewer for the journal Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness and PLOS ONE. Scientific interests: epidemiology, social medicine, medical sociology, medical ethics, disaster medicine, health economics, health policy.

Membership in organizations:

Member of the Bulgarian Scientific Society for Public Health, European Public Health Association and International Network for Health Workforce Education. Expert at the World Justice Project Rule of Law.
