In connection with the 25th anniversary of the Faculty of Public Health and for the particularly significant contributions of Prof. Dr. Tsekomir Vodenicharov, MD, for the development of medical science and for the establishment of the Faculties of Public Health in the system of higher education in the Republic of Bulgaria, by Decision of the Academic Council of the Medical University - Sofia dated October 26, 2020, the Faculty of Public Health is given the name Faculty of Public Health "Prof. Dr. Tsekomir Vodenicharov, MD".

The Faculty of Public Health is the youngest, but most dynamically developing unit in the structure of the Medical University - Sofia.

It all starts with an idea, a concept, and one could even say a dream of Prof. Dr. Tsekomir Vodenicharov, MD, who, with his visionary way of thinking and his contacts, manages to turn it into reality.

Over the past years, the Public Health Institute has proven to be a Bulgarian project with European significance. The Institute is a modern university formation for introducing students and graduates to the specific healthcare management science – public health management.

The founder and long-time Dean of the FOH, Prof. Vodenicharov, shares in his book "The 10 Principles of the Physician and Manager" the path of the FOH academic structure, built from nothing, gained an undisputed place and authority, and established itself as a leader of change:

"What is a FOS: an idea product, but also a center for the production of ideas. It is an emanation of an idea, but also its institutionalization. As a generator of ideas, a FOS is directly interested in their materialization. That is why it is necessary to be in close relations with politics (parties, organizations, institutions) and business (private structures, entrepreneurs, managers). Therefore, it must have a long-term anticipatory vision and carefully selected allies."

Prof. Dr. Tsekomir Vodenicharov, MD, is the recipient of the following major awards:

• To the Republic of Bulgaria "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" necklace
• A badge of honor for the city of Sofia
• The Ministry of Health awarded a Gold Medal and a Badge of Honor
• The city of Ruse receives a badge of honor
• At MU – Sofia Esculap (2 times)
• At MU – Plovdiv Doctor Honoris Causa
