Yesterday forever us left prof. Dr. Veselin Borisov, MD – one big a professional, unreservedly dedicated to medicine, science and his students, winner of high honors and awards for his scientific and public service activitiesHe was a person., dedicateda on the ceaseless search for goodness, leaving behind a memory of infinite humanity.

Prof. Dr. Veselin Borisov, MD, was born in 1939. He graduated from the Medical Academy-Sofia and began his medical career as a neurologist at the hospital in Belogradchik /1964-1967/ and after winning competitions he became an assistant /1968/, associate professor /1980/ and professor /1988/ in social medicine, health policy and management at the Medical University-Sofia, Faculty of Public Health, Medical University-Pleven and NBU. 

He introduced and taught for the first time in Bulgaria the following academic disciplines: "Health Management", "Health Policy", "Organizational Change Management" and "Time Management". 

He was director of the Scientific Institute of Social Medicine at the Medical Academy, head of the Department of Health Management and deputy dean of the Faculty of Public Health. 

He holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Leeds, UK.

In the PHARE Program, he also directed the first academic course in health management in Bulgaria (1993-1997). He is the President of the Balkan Association for Philosophy and History of Medicine.

Prof. Borisov is the author of over 160 scientific publications and 42 books (36 monographs and scientific publications as well as 6 books of fiction) and 4 textbooks. Among his scientific publications, his books on the problems of strategic health management and critical articles on health reform issues stand out. His textbooks - "Synthetic Social Medicine" (two editions) and "Health Management - the New Alphabet of Health Management" (three editions) are extremely popular. 

Founder and editor-in-chief of the magazine "Health Management", since 2010 he has also been editor-in-chief of the magazine "Medical Meridians" and deputy editor-in-chief of the international yearbook "Asclepius". 

He served as Chairman of the Specialized Scientific Council on Social Medicine, Hygiene, Occupational Diseases and Toxicology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for two terms, and is also Chairman of the Balkan Association for Philosophy and History of Medicine. He is a member of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Medical Association and of the Board of the South-East European Medical Forum (SEEMF).

He was nominated by the American Biographical Institute for "Man of the Year 2002" and was awarded the academic award "Panacea" for 2004. In 2019, he received the honorary sign "SIGNUM LAUDIS" on a ribbon for special merits for the functioning and development of MU - Sofia during the years of his professional realization.

He is an honorary citizen of the town of Belogradchik.
