On July 8 at Dondukov 2, the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rumen Radev awarded high state awards to four distinguished Bulgarians.

At the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Tsekomir Vodenicharov, MD, was awarded the Order of St. Cyril and Methodius with a necklace for his services to the development of medical science and the establishment of public health faculties in the higher education system.

The proposal for the high distinction for Prof. Vodenicharov was an idea supported by an initiative committee of 38 prominent public figures and representatives of the medical, academic and intellectual circles, who argued the proposal for Prof. Vodenicharov's candidacy for the award of the Order of "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" with the following reasons:

1. Prof. Dr. Tsekomir Vodenicharov, MD, is the founder and dean of the first Faculty of Public Health in Bulgaria.
2. He is the founder of the national school of public health and health management.
3. At the initiative of Prof. Vodenicharov, the city of Sofia will be the European Capital of Public Health 2020.
4.  He is the initiator of the introduction of medical ethics as basic knowledge in learning the medical profession.
5.  Prof. Dr. Tsekomir Vodenicharov, MD, is respected and recognized by the medical and academic communities.

The proposal of the initiative committee was unanimously supported by the Management of the Ministry of Health. At the first meeting of the Council of Ministers in 2019, a Decision was made to propose to the President of the Republic of Bulgaria to issue a Decree to award Prof. Dr. Tsekomir Vodenicharov, MD, with the Order of "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" with a necklace. By Decree No. 13, President Rumen Radev honored Prof. Vodenicharov with the well-deserved distinction.
